MTCO: a new fitting studio for cyclists in the UK

MTCO—or Measure Twice, Cut Once—is a spin-off bike fitting studio from the team here at Spoon Customs which we launched this month, helmed by master bike fitter, fit trainer and long term friend of ours, Tony Corke.

Based out of our place in Puttenham, Surrey, MTCO aims to make Spoon’ facilities and our approach to fitting our own bikes available to more people, inviting anyone, regardless of if they want a custom Spoon or not, to take part in our detailed fit process.

Through Spoon, we’ve come to know some great fitters, and we look forward to welcoming Tony and his colleagues as residents or as visiting fitters in our studio for guest slots, talks, and events over time and for now, to have you in for proper bike fit.

The benefits of a custom fit are numerous, yet many cyclists still don’t routinely fit before buying kit; the performance advantages of a great fit are clearly not fully understood and there’s a lot of unmet demand for good fit advice, so we hope MTCO and our new studio can become trusted fit experts and a destination serving cyclists in our region and beyond.

As part of our service at MTCO we’ll be providing impartial, expert advice before you buy a new bike and that in turn can help to arm you with reliable positional data and information that can be essential to buying a bike that works for your needs, regardless of where you buy it from.

We can even help source a new bike for you. And, by leveraging the services of the Spoon Customs workshop, also on site, we’ll also help you set it up when it arrives—ideal if you want to buy kit from one of the growing number of excellent direct-to-consumer brands.

Without a shop floor full of bikes ready to sell you, we hope you can trust our MTCO team to provide good, sensible, impartial advice based on your specific needs, not sales goals.

Of course, fitting goes beyond just picking the right size for a new bike. At MTCO we can also provide advice and feedback on your current position, helping you optimise your existing set-up for the types riding you do to improve performance and power output, overcome discomfort, and reduce the risk of injury.

An up to three-hour fitting appointment costs £330, during which Tony and the MTCO team work with you on all relevant aspects of your position and kit to provide you with a full report with data and advice on improvements you can make.

Putting fit plans into action, the studio supplies a range of stems, bars, tape, and saddles from both leading brands and boutique outfits alike. We also carry a limited stock of quality products, including POC helmets, Lake shoes, Shimano, Look, and Speedplay pedals, with other parts and accessories available for next-day ordering.

If you would like to book in for a fit with Tony or one of the team, you can select from our available dates via the new booking engine on our dedicated website at www.mtco.bike

If you don’t see a date that works for you just now, we plan to make more dates available as business picks up over the next few weeks.

If you’re a freelance bike fitter and you’d like to join us or use our studio for your own clients, give us a shout, and we’d love to chat.
