MTCO x Gun Control collab in Maximum Black for Max's QR PR6 TT bike

Our new bike fit studio, MTCO, has been flat out almost every Friday since it opened. We’ve had a number of Spoon customers through, but we’ve also been pleased to see so many people make use of our services for a diverse range of fit requirements, whether it’s physical discomfort, optimisation for power or riding position, or for help buying a new third-party bike.

One such customer also happens to be our Tax Consultant, Max. He brought us a fairly battered old Cervelo for repaint at Gun Control, but unfortunately, after stripping it, we found there was just too much wear and tear to justify the work.

A discussion ensued, and eventually Max settled on ordering a Quintana Roo PR Six, which we were able to supply via UK distributor, Windwave.

Tony, our master fitter, welcomed Max into his newly completed studio with a cup of Grind’s excellent coffee and set to work optimising his position on the stock bike.

The entire front-end of the bike was built up custom to suit his needs with a Deda bull bar in suitable size and some gorgeous Aerocoach clip-ons, modified to fit the bar.

Ben at Sharp Precision Wheels specced the awesome wheelset, built with 67mm filament-wound Venn rims onto DT Swiss 240 hubs for hassle-free operation and also, surely, the fastest 10k times.

Shimano’s Ultegra Di2 12-speed groupset with blips takes care of the shifting, and everything but the TT brake levers came from stock. (We’ll have supply into the new year, so do shout if you need anything like that. With stock normalising again, you can actually buy parts!)

Sam at Gun Control Paint took care of the nowhere-to-hide Piano Black with Gold detailing—a simple finish on an immaculately prepped surface standing up beautifully, as usual.

Aerocoach and Deda provided contact points for the build, expertly fitted and specced for an optimal position by Tony at our on-site fitting studio, MTCO. Pic by Simon Eldon.

The black-and-gold chain is a KMC item and had to go on at the last minute to complete the build. I don’t know how many workshop Ultegra chains have made it onto bikes this year, just to be switched out in favour of some with more bling (too many for good business), but this one looks insane on this bike, and truly nothing else would do.

Thanks to Max for the input and energy. We’ve loved this build. It’s a little different to what we usually do, but it’s a testament to what happens when MTCO and Gun Control get hold of a customer’s ideas on an otherwise stock bike.

If you’re thinking of buying a bike in the New Year, fit first and buy later with MTCO, our in-house fitting studio. If you want us to supply something and add some Gun Control magic to the build, you can discuss that after fitting over a decent coffee; we’d love to add your project to our roster.
